Trip highlights

Silversmithing

The absolute highlight of this retreat, and something I'm truly passionate about, is the chance to learn the art of silversmithing from Balinese masters who have inherited their skills through generations. In their traditional workshops, you'll be personally guided through the intricate techniques of "Jawan" (granulation), "Tarah" (a unique form of stamping with similarities to wood carving), and "Tatahan" (repoussé). It's a rare opportunity to connect with the heart of Balinese artistry and create your own unique pieces of jewelry that hold deep cultural significance.

Mount Batur jeep tour

We'll rise before the sun, embarking on an exciting journey to the foot of majestic Mount Batur. We'll then hop into a convoy of jeeps and wind our way up to the summit. As the sky transforms from a starry indigo canvas into a breathtaking explosion of pinks and oranges, we'll savour a delicious breakfast and soak in the stunning panoramic views.

Next, we'll head to a natural hot spring to bask in the warm morning sun and sip on refreshing, freshly-squeezed juice. It's the perfect way to unwind after our early start.

On our way back, we'll pass by bustling fruit stalls, where you can sample some of Bali's most mouthwatering treasures – think juicy dragon fruit and tangy passion fruit.

Unforgettable culinary experiences

Our retreat is a celebration of flavours, where every meal is a carefully curated experience. Our talented private chefs will tantalize you with authentic Balinese dishes, prepared live right before your eyes, showcasing the island's vibrant culinary heritage.

We've also handpicked some of Bali's most charming and delicious restaurants for unforgettable sit-down meals, and we'll create magical moments with sunset banquets where you can savour a delectable feast as the sun dips below the horizon.Throughout the retreat, you'll discover surprise culinary delights that will tantalise your taste buds and nourish your soul. Each dish is crafted with fresh, local ingredients and a passion for bringing people together through food.

Monkeys, rice paddies and purification

We'll kick off our adventure by venturing into the heart of Sangeh Monkey Forest, a lush sanctuary where mischievous macaques roam freely. It's a chance to connect with nature's furry friends in their natural habitat - just remember to keep your belongings close!

Next, we'll journey to the breathtaking Jatiluwih Rice Terraces, a UNESCO World Heritage site that will leave you in awe. These emerald-green terraces cascade down the hillsides, creating a mesmerizing landscape that's truly a feast for the eyes. We'll take a leisurely stroll through the fields, soaking up the serene atmosphere and learning about the traditional irrigation system that has sustained these terraces for centuries.

Finally, we'll embark on a spiritual journey as we partake in a Melukat purification ceremony at the hidden gem of Beji Samuan Temple. This ancient ritual is a beautiful way to cleanse the mind, body, and soul, leaving you feeling refreshed and renewed. You'll be immersed in the rich cultural traditions of Bali as you participate in this sacred practice.

  • Our own private villa, with spacious bedrooms, leafy gardens, and a pool to cool off in between workshops for 8 days and 7 nights.

  • From chef-cooked meals to dinners out in hand-picked restaurants, every bite is covered. The fridge and cupboards stay stocked with fruit, snacks, soft drinks, and treats, ready whenever you are.

  • Private airport transfers are included to and from the retreat, whether you’re heading straight from your flight or moving on to your next hotel afterwards.

  • The silversmithing sessions are the heart of the retreat. You’ll work side by side with Balinese silversmiths whose skills have been shaped by centuries of tradition. Each day brings something new, from forming and texturing silver, to intricate techniques like jawan (granulation). By the end of the week, you’ll have created your own jewellery, but more importantly, you’ll have experienced a way of working that connects craft, culture, and ritual in a way that’s hard to put into words.

  • Laundry service is included, so you can pack light and always have fresh clothes ready.

  • Our excursions show you Bali at its most magical. One leads us to a hidden monkey forest, the vast Jatiluwih rice terraces, a tucked-away café in the fields, a sacred purification ceremony, and a butterfly garden. The other begins in the cool pre-dawn, climbing a volcano by jeep to catch sunrise above the clouds, then relaxing in natural hot springs and sampling exotic fruits on the way back to the villa.

  • A thoughtfully curated bag of little treasures from around the island will be waiting for you when you arrive. I won’t spoil the surprise, but I promise you’ll love it.

  • An evening at the night market, a hands-on Balinese cooking class, cocktails by the pool, and a massage by our private river. We’ll also visit our trusted gemstone shop, silver dealer, and tool supplier so you can bring treasures home.

About me

Hey there! If you're new here, I'm Britt, the founder of Noctua Jewellery & Workshops, a little slice of silversmithing heaven nestled in Liverpool. You might know me from my classes, where we've been teaching workshops and sharing a love for all things silver since 2017.

But let me tell you a little secret: Bali holds a special place in my heart. It all started with a spontaneous work trip back in 2019, and I haven't looked back since. Bali is where I fell in love with the art of Balinese silversmithing, learned to zip around on a scooter (quite the adventure!), and discovered hidden waterfalls that took my breath away. The food? Oh, the food is an absolute symphony of flavors!

But it's not just the sights and tastes that captivated me; it's the people. The Balinese are known for their warmth, generosity, and incredible hospitality. And let me tell you, they live up to every expectation. I've had the privilege of learning from master silversmiths in their homes, each one sharing a legacy of craftsmanship passed down through generations.

That's why I knew Bali was the perfect place for our first retreat. It's a chance to share all the beauty, magic, and inspiration that I've found here. From the lush rice paddies to the vibrant art scene, every corner of Bali is bursting with life and creativity. And with a touch of luxury and a whole lot of heart, I'm committed to creating an unforgettable experience that will leave you feeling refreshed, recharged, and reconnected with your creative spark.
